Basset Artesien-Normand

Breed History
The Basset Artésien-Normand was born in the 1870s. It comes from a cross between the Basset de Normandie and the Basset d’Artois, at the time of the first French Bassets. Count Jean-Emmanuel Le Coulteux de Canteleu and Louis Lane are considered the creators of this breed. The first focused on creating a utility dog with straight forelegs (the Artois), while the second favored a dog with twisted forelegs (the Normand). Unfortunately, the name Basset Artésien-Normand did not see the light of day until the beginning of the 20th century.

Twenty-five years after creating the first standard (1898), the breed was made official in 1924. Gradually, the species was introduced in England and the United States. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale recognized the Basset Artésien-Normand on October 29, 1963.
