English Thoroughbred

Breed History
All current English Thoroughbreds are descended from Herod, Eclipse, and Matchem, descendants of three Oriental stallions: Bierley Turk, Godolphin Arabian, and Darley Arabian. In the 17th century, this selective breeding gave birth to swift horses.

Selected for racing because of its speed, the Thoroughbred has been used to train and improve breeds like the Selle-Français or the Anglo-Arab. However, it is always used for racing, and it is now trendy in other equestrian disciplines such as the Eventing.
