Breed history
Bombay is considered the little brother of the American Burmese. Therefore, he is far from the Indian town that bears his name and has nothing to do with this race from the United States. Indeed, Bombay was created by Nikki Horner in the mid-20th century, an American breeder who dreamed of owning a panther. Something is almost done with this cat which looks like, in miniature, one of the heroes of the Jungle Book.
After a few trials, the Bombay comes from a cross between the American Burmese, in a more sepia tone, and the black American Shorthair. Until 1972, she gave birth to 27 litters from Bombay. After this long and tedious work, the breed was finally recognized at its fair value in 1976.
